Corrimal Nippers have been approached to run a BBQ this Saturday  1.12.12 for the Boat Carnival being held at Corrimal Beach.

All funds made will go directly to the Nippers!

Having worked on this BBQ last year, I can add a couple of thoughts.

• You don’t have to be there all day. An hour or two would be great. The more people we have, the more the work can be shared around.
• It’s not all about cooking: setting up, taking customer money, preparing bread, serving drinks, cleaning up afterwards – all these tasks are just as vital as turning sausages.
• It’s a great way to meet some of the other people in the club and make new friendships.
• It’s a fantastic experience! It’s hectic, for sure, but the carnival itself is amazing: people from everywhere all in their team colours, marquees and tents all over the beach, a marvellous spirit of competitiveness, and those magnificent surf boats crashing through the waves. It’s a classic Australian experience – and you’re right there in the middle of it!

Pick up the phone and call or text Corrinne, and let her know we won’t let this once-a-year-only opportunity to raise serious funds for the club slip away.

Just a reminder that it is possible to register for Nippers up until 16 December, which is our last Nippers session before the Christmas / New Year break. If you have any friends who are still thinking about joining us, let them know they’re very welcome.

Also remember that any Nippers who are also students of our sponsors McKeon Swim School should make sure to let the school know they’re a registered Nipper. We receive a sponsorship payment for every Nipper who attends the school. Find out more on the website.

The barbecue roster has been working really well this year, and we thank everyone who has contributed their time and energy. It’s our single most important regular fundraising activity. Keep it up – both helping out, and buying the goodies – as it will help us to buy much needed new equipment for the club. This week, it’s the Under 7s’ turn.

We also have a BIG barbecue coming up. We will be running the BBQ for the Surf Boat Carnival to be held at Corrimal Beach on 1 December. This is a big event, and the BBQ turnover is very considerable. It also requires a good complement of volunteers to keep things going for the seven hours or so of feeding competitors and spectators.

PORT KEMBLA AQUATHON Nippers aged 10 and up are invited to join this fun event, which starts from 8am on Sunday 25 November at Port Kembla Beach.

DONATIONS We need donations of hamper-type goodies for the hampers that make up the prizes for our annual Christmas raffle. There is a box for the purpose at the clubhouse.

BBQ Roster

This week, the Under 13/14s are rostered to run the barbeque. All parents are asked to note:

• Arrive by 9am to help set up beach and BBQ
• At day’s end, BBQ, utensils and area are to be cleaned up
• All boards and equipment from beach are to be washed and stored

First, you might want to get the big picture. Click here to download a recent weekly update from Surf Life Saving Illawarra: it lists all the upcoming Sydney Water Carnival events as well as special events, training, contacts and some general news.

Note particularly the Official Level One Coaching Course coming up on 22/23 Sept: some of our parents should go to that.

Please note that we won’t be involved in Spring Into Corrimal at all this year, due to families having other commitments on 9th September.

This year’s Rego days are 16 September and 7 October at Corrimal Pool, 10am–noon. Bring towel and togs for those who need to do a proficiency swim.

Nippers start day is Sunday 14 October: kick off @ 10.00 am!

Any member of Corrimal Junior SLSC who joins McKeon’s Swim School in Towradgi and pays for Term 4, 2012 (commences Monday 8 October, concludes Saturday 22 December) can show their proof of registration when joining and Mckeon’s will donate $50 (max $50 per family) to Corrimal Junior SLSC. Our annual Annual General Meeting will be held Saturday 31st March at Woonona Bulli RSL, commencing at 1.30pm.

We are having Sunday Sippers at 3pm upstairs in the surf club. All invited.

Our annual Annual General Meeting will be held Saturday 31st March at Woonona Bulli RSL, commencing at 1.30pm.

If you are interested in becoming more involved in surf club, please come along to the AGM and take on a position.

This AGM, we have two positions which must be filled: Secretary and Registrar. These are key positions for the club, and we ask you to consider taking one of them on.

Note that the current holders of these positions will be available to provide assistance to the new holders, and they will also have the support of all the other Committee members.

If you’re in two minds about it, come along to the AGM and see how things work.

Our annual Presentation Day will be held Saturday 31st March at Woonona Bulli RSL, immediately following the AGM, commencing at 3pm. Finger food will be provided.

Surf Life Saving Illawarra is seeking nominations for the 2012 Branch Camp. This camp will be held at Coledale SLSC from Friday 24 February starting at 7pm and concluding at 4pm on Saturday [...]]]> The Development Camp is about involving Under 14 members from within the Illawarra Branch in an experience that is rewarding, informative and fun.

Surf Life Saving Illawarra is seeking nominations for the 2012 Branch Camp. This camp will be held at Coledale SLSC from Friday 24 February starting at 7pm and concluding at 4pm on Saturday 25 February. Participants are welcome to attend on the Friday and Saturdays only should they not wish to stay overnight.

What the camp is all about
Encouraging Participants to have fun, and educating participants on pathways and opportunities available to them through SLS.

Participants will be involved in a number of forums covering Education, Lifesaving and Surf Sports as well as team building and leadership development.

Accommodation
Accommodation will be available to members who wish to camp (in tents) at Coledale SLSC.

Cost
The cost to participants is $30 for all participants.

The nomination process
Clubs are encouraged to nominate Under 14 members from within their clubs that are good representatives of the club and the movement. Participants should hold their Surf Rescue Certificate. Nominations must include the attached nomination form and are to be endorsed by the club and returned to Surf Life Saving Illawarra by Wednesday 22 February 2012. Successful applicants will be advised of their attendance via email on Thursday 23 February 2012.
